SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAM

Due to crumbling structures, poor teacher training & support, lack of toilet facilities and classroom resources, thousands of students in government-run schools (particularly girls) will drop out of school before Senior 1.

In order to lift the quality of education in rural Uganda, we identify struggling schools in Amolatar District and partner with their Administration to improve infrastructure, teaching quality and extra-curricular programming.

HEALTH CENTER IMPROVEMENT

Access to medical care is a major obstacle for families in rural Uganda. Local health centers are often understaffed, overcrowded and lack even the most basic necessities like clean water, patient beds or power.

In partnership with the Amolatar District local government, we identify local health centers which primarily serve pregnant women and new mothers to improve their quality of care by donating medical supplies and infrastructure.

FEMININE HEALTH & HYGIENE

Since 2017, Far Away Friends has partnered with AfriPads to donate over 500 reusable sanitary pads and provide Menstrual Hygiene Management & Girls Mentorship to students at our partner schools.

Thousands of girls across rural Uganda will miss weeks of school every year because of their periods, causing them to fall behind in their school work and contributing to high drop-out rates. We will be expanding this program as part of a new after school Skills for Life program launching in 2020.

CLEAN WATER & WASH

Access to clean water and public toilet facilities are extremely limited in Namasale sub-county. Students at our school and their families were spending countless hours per day walking to the nearest borehole and then waiting in lines for up to an hour.

In 2018, Far Away Friends installed a community hand pump well on the Global Leaders campus that serves clean water to all of our students and teachers, as well as 70 families per day in our village.

In 2020, we will continue to expand our Clean Water & WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) programs to impact more families in our district by drilling more wells and providing free WASH trainings at the local health center.

BUSINESS TRAINING

LAUNCHING IN 2020

After working in Namasale sub-county for several years alongside parents, leaders and community members, we have consistently been asked the same question, “Will Far Away Friends offer families training on how to increase our income to invest in our children’s futures?”

In 2020, Far Away Friends will begin developing a business training & income generation program for parents and families in Namasale sub-county who rely on subsistence farming, fishing and small businesses to support their families.

This program will be community-lead and focused on the creation of new & innovative business models as well as co-ops to provide families with economic opportunity and the ability to break cycles of poverty for their families.

In order to launch this program, we need YOUR support!
