If it takes a village to raise a child, we want to make sure the villages we partner with have access to the resources they need to raise the next generation of global citizens. We are partnering with district leaders to identify and invest in community resources that are in need of development, like health centers, loans/savings groups and access to clean water, so that families have the tools they need to thrive, not just survive.

Improving Health Centers
Access to medical care is a major obstacle for families in rural Uganda. Local health centers are often understaffed, overcrowded and lack even the most basic necessities like clean water, enough beds or even power. We identify local health centers which primarily serve pregnant women and new mothers to improve their quality of care by donating medical supplies, solarizing buildings, providing mattresses or even providing free trainings to professionals who work with children.
Collaborations for a brighter future
In 2022 Far Away Friends (FAF) partnered with our friends at Let There be Light International (LBTLI) to solarize the Acii Health Center in Uganda's Amolatar District. Before the project, the center lacked power, and mothers had to deliver their babies in the dark with a single flashlight. The project not only provides lights that will last for decades but also encourages mothers to deliver their children at the center, reducing risks to both parent and child. The program also includes the distribution of Pico lights - portable, solar-charged lamps - to each mother who delivers at the center. Additionally, LBTLI, in partnership with the Ugandan National Spelling Bee, has provided Pico lights and storybooks to 150 students at Global Leaders Primary School.
